the phrase, the mirror, the tattoo (i am beauty)
In 2006, I began looking in the mirror as part of my meditation practice. A few minutes a few days a week. Breathing. Looking in my eyes or focusing on my eyebrow or curve of my shoulder. Trying to move past the internal negative self-talk and lean into a gentleness.
The mirror meditation changed my life.
It gave me the gift of deeply seeing myself in a way I had never been seen before. It gave me an access point to my truth and a way to see my own beauty.
On a day that was particularly hard and I found myself in front of the mirror with the inner critic buzzing about inside my head, I had the thought that I wanted a t-shirt that said "I am beauty" backwards so that every time I looked in the mirror, my inner self had to read those words.
A few years later, I made a soul mantra with that message (this is how the soul mantra necklaces were born).
And then earlier this year I said to Kelly, "Can we turn this message into a tattoo?" "Love it!" she said.
